Tips For Selecting An RV

If you love camping but want to have a more upgraded experience, you’ll want to check out some RVs. When you travel and live in a camper, you’ll be free to explore areas that you would otherwise never see. You’ll also be able to relax in a comfy place at the end of a tiring day. When you’re ready to browse RVs for sale in Peoria, AZ, visit Sun City RV for a tour of our inventory.

Size Matters

If this is your first RV, it might be difficult to make a selection from the various different types you see. There are a few ways to narrow down your options, and one of those is the number of people who’ll be camping with you. Know not only the regular sleeping arrangement, but try to have some space for at least 2 additional sleepers just in case you end up having visitors. The more sleepers you have, the bigger your RV will need to be.

Driving Skills

Another thing to keep in mind when choosing an RV is your driving ability. No matter what the size of the RV, you should spend some time practising before you hit the open road. You’ll also have to decide if you want a towable trailer or one with its own drivetrain. Some bigger models aren’t recommended for new RVers because it takes considerable practice to master them.

Amenities

When selecting an RV, think of the features that are most important for you. There are some features that can really add to your comfort and safety, even though they may not seem essential at first. After you’ve chosen your must-have features, you can see if there are some luxury amenities you’d like to enhance your camping experience.

These are a few basic points to keep in mind, but there’s more to selecting an RV than we can list here. Visit Sun City RV at our location in Peoria, AZ and talk to us about what you want and we’ll guide you to the best RVs for you.

RV Camping Tips for the American Southwest

Do you feel the call of the desert? There’s a lot for a camper to do and experience in the American Southwest, but the region requires some extra preparation if you want to prioritize both comfort and safety. To help you prep, we at Sun City RV have compiled this list of helpful tips. If you’re looking for RVs for sale in Peoria, Arizona, contact our sales department today.

Plenty of Water

The desert is a hot, dry place that can very quickly dehydrate unprepared campers. Make sure you’re not one of them by stocking up on enough water. This includes drinking water, as well as water for washing, cooking, cleaning, etc. It’s always better to have too much than to need it and not be able to get it.

Warm Clothes

Yes, the desert is hot during the day but nights can often get chilly. Shorts might be good for the daytime but you’ll need something warmer if you’re going to be out and about after the sun sets. Make sure you pack some full-coverage clothes and some extra blankets for when the temperature drops.

Critter Awareness

There are a lot of creatures that call the desert home and some of them can be deadly for you. Inform yourself of the most dangerous ones you may meet and keep some reference material on hand that you can refer to when needed. You should ideally know how to treat non-lethal bites.

Navigational Tools

The desert is beautiful and mysterious, and is home to many areas that don’t have great network coverage. Don’t rely solely on your phone for directions and make sure you have different types of navigational tools if the need arises. Do ensure that all tech tools are properly charged before you leave your RV.

Mind the Heat

It’s best not to step out of your camper during high heat afternoons. Use this time to relax or tackle light chores in your RV. It’s best to step out in the mornings or evenings when it’s a little cooler. Make sure you have sunscreen and sunglasses to save you from harmful UV rays when you’re out and about.

Fill ‘er Up

There are plenty of gas stations in the American Southwest, but if you’re headed to more remote areas, you may not always find one. Additionally, some stations only provide fuel during certain seasons. Ensure that you fill your tank whenever possible. It’s better to be over-prepared rather than stranded in a place where help isn’t easily available.

We hope these tips help you have safer camping trips! For more information, come to Sun City RV in Peoria, AZ and have a chat with our expert staff. If you’re still looking for that perfect RV, our sales department will be happy to give you a tour of our stock!

Campgrounds Near Phoenix, Arizona

The Phoenix metro area is vast in scope and is surrounded by natural wonders on all sides. To the north, you’ll find stretches of desert, several mountain ranges and Lake Pleasant. All of these areas are ideal RV camping regions.

If you’re not sure where to go, your friends here at Sun City RV in Peoria have picked out a few of our favorite local camping destinations, so get ready to hitch up your travel trailer or gas up your motorhome for a weekend of adventure in the desert!

Pleasant Harbor RV Park (Peoria, AZ)

45 miles north and slightly west of downtown Phoenix, you’ll find Lake Pleasant, a reservoir created in 1927 to serve the greater metropolitan area. The RV park on its southern shore features 253 full-service campsites and 60 partial hook-up sites. Amenities are plentiful here, including bathrooms with showers, laundry facilities, Jacuzzi access, a convenience store, an outdoor pool and a clubhouse. Using personal watercrafts is a popular lake pastime, as is fishing.

Nearby Indian Mesa is the site of an ancient Hohokam village, if you have the stamina for a steep hike up its 400’ sides. You’ll see the ruins of their original housing structures as well as a number of artifacts and former canals built to support agricultural endeavors. Hiking trails around the mesa and lake will let you view beautiful mountainous desert landscapes.

Seven Springs Campground (Cave Creek, AZ)

This more primitive campground is located 53 miles northeast of Phoenix within the Tonto National Forest. Seven Springs was built in 1934 and currently has 23 campsites that have picnic tables and grills with use of a solar-powered water pump during the day. Vault restrooms are available on site as well.

Gas, food and propane can be acquired on your way in from Cave Creek in the town of Carefree, 18 miles to the south of Seven Springs. There are some hiking trails nearby through the desert hills. Any trailers taken to the campground must be less than 16’ long, and the gravel road is sometimes closed, so check ahead before you go!

Visit Sun City RV in Peoria if you have any maintenance needs for your recreational vehicle! We also have a full inventory of motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels and more to help make your camping trips better.

Choosing The Right Fifth Wheel

One of the more recent innovations in towed recreational vehicles is the fifth wheel, which has a unique coupling that makes for greater stability on the highway while also allowing for a more luxurious and spacious camping experience. These trailers are only becoming more popular as people opt to upgrade how they travel.

If you’re curious about fifth wheels, but you’re not sure what to consider when you’re shopping for one, read this guide by the folks at Sun City RV in Peoria, AZ! We’re more than happy to help you with whatever you need when it comes to recreational vehicles.

Consider Size

Fifth wheels can vary in a lot of ways, but they are mainly all fairly sizeable trailers. This means that you get spacious interiors with plenty of ceiling clearance for taller campers, lots of storage, extra bunks, and a roomy kitchen with larger appliances so you can cook like you do at home.

Some models have another private bedroom or bathroom to benefit big families who are traveling together, and slide-outs can further expand the space. You’ll feel like you’re right at home wherever you are in a fifth wheel!

Towing Vehicle

With a fifth wheel, you’ll either need to have or purchase the right towing vehicle to be able to use it. Fifth wheels have a unique coupling that locks into the bed of a half-ton or larger pickup truck, with the hitch of the trailer extending over the rear axle of your towing vehicle to lock into place. This gives you added stability while towing, even if the rig is bigger than a small bumper-pull trailer. You’ll still want to practice driving with your fifth wheel hitched up to your truck so you can be confident when you hit the highway.

Why Choose A Toy Hauler?

Do you love powersports and camping and long to combine the two? A toy hauler gives you the ability to take your off-roading vehicles with you wherever you’d like to camp, providing secure storage space along with comfortable living quarters in one convenient trailer. With so many great recreational vehicle options available on the market, it can be hard to choose one!

That’s why your friends at Sun City RV here in Peoria, Arizona, have provided the following reasons for purchasing a toy hauler, so you can think about whether they’re the right choice for you.

Cargo Versatility

What’s great about toy haulers is that you don’t simply have to use them to haul “toys” around. While the enclosed garage space is made to handle muddy, heavy off-roading vehicles and motorcycles, the truth is that you can store pretty much anything you want in there.

Take bicycles, furniture, fishing gear, sports equipment and more in the cargo bay! Use it to haul equipment to a job site, then do your office work in the living quarters. Set it up as a roofed patio with some fold-down chairs and a table when you’re camping. If you hunt, dress your game in the space and hose it out later. Make it a play area for the kids so they aren’t taking up the living room with their toys.

Excellent Features

Toy haulers all have the basics within their walls: a living room, a kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom. Depending on your needs, that may be enough. But if you like, you can go for a bigger model that has more space and more options like entertainment centers, extra rooms or a more residential-style kitchen with bigger appliances. Think about what’s important to you and factor in your available budget so you can get something you love without breaking the bank.

Ready to check out some toy haulers for yourself? Visit the Sun City RV dealership in Peoria, Arizona, today! Let our staff answer any more questions you might have about these versatile vehicles.

How to Choose the Right Cargo Trailer

Even the sturdiest and largest trucks can’t fit everything in the bed, which is why you might need to start looking for your own cargo trailer. The more often you transport supplies and cargo, the more invaluable one of these models is going to be. Make sure you’re getting the right trailer for the right job, when you stop by Sun City RV in Peoria, Arizona. We want your next job to be easier and more efficient.

What Are You Hauling?

The easiest way to find the right trailer is to think about what it is you need to haul. Start with size. If the trailer isn’t big enough to cart around your stuff, then it’s not the most efficient choice for you. This will be especially important when you’re talking about transporting powersport vehicles or other big-ticket items.

Another big concern for cargo trailer owners is whether they need to have a protective shield around their trailer. Enclosed trailers can protect your cargo from the elements, but they can also restrict the amount of space you have to work with. In other words, you have to consider what it is you’re hauling.

How Far Are You Traveling?

Also consider how far you’re traveling, or how often you’ll be on the road. The more time you spend on the road, the more seriously you’ll want to consider construction material. While some materials will be more expensive than others, they’ll last longer and prevent you from having to buy a new model too quickly. Then again, if this is a trailer you’re only going to use a handful of times every year, then maybe the more expensive models aren’t necessary. Consider what you need and what’s realistic for your budget to choose the right trailer for you.

Ready to check out some cargo trailers for sale? Stop by Sun City RV and let one of our friendly staff give you the full tour of the available options, here in Peoria, Arizona.

How to Choose the Right Trailer

As one of the most diverse RV groups on the market, trailers, or travel trailers, offer a great range of options, which are intended to make camping more enjoyable for all sorts of RVers. You’ll just need to stop by Sun City RV and let one of our experienced staff show you the models we have available right now at our location in Peoria, Arizona.

Choosing the Right Size

As you’ll quickly discover, when it comes to trailers, there’s a lot to choose from. No matter what kind of personality you have or what your camping needs are, odds are there’s a trailer that’ll satisfy what you’re looking for. The ways in which you narrow down your options can change from person to person, depending on what you need. One easy way to decide that’s applicable to all buyers is deciding how big or how small you’ll want your trailer to be.

Sleeping Arrangements

There are a few ways to make this choice. Start by making sure you have enough sleeping arrangements for everyone. You might want to consider how often you’ll have guests and if you’ll need to accommodate them as well.

Time Spent on the Road

You can also think about how much time you’ll be spending in your trailer. Even if you’re desperate to save money, sometimes tight living quarters can make for a miserable trip. Then again, if you don’t intend on spending that much time in your camper, then maybe you don’t need lots of interior space.

What’s Your Personal Preference?

You can’t underestimate the power of personal preference. Some people just like more space and that’s a great reason to choose one trailer over another. After all, this is supposed to be your home away from home, so you should find something that should make you feel relaxed and comfortable. You might want to check out the insides of a range of trailer sizes before deciding which sizes make you feel most at home.

Ready to check out some trailers for sale? Stop by Sun City RV and let one of our friendly staff show you what we have available right now. We’re in Peoria, Arizona, so stop by today!

How to Choose the Right Motorhome

When you’re ready to ditch the tow vehicle, stop by Sun City RV and check out the motorhomes we have for sale here at our location in Peoria, Arizona. As the only RV group to come with its own drivetrain, you’ll be able to enjoy the convenience of simply hopping in the driver’s seat and hitting the road whenever you want, so don’t miss this opportunity!

Class

First, it might help to know how the industry breaks down the motorhome group. This particular category is so varied, that it’s been broken down into subcategories, known as classes. At one end of the spectrum, you have Class A motorhomes, which are more reminiscent of buses than traditional RVs, at least in their looks. They come with a flat front and panoramic windshield, and may require some relearning of basic driving skills to accommodate a unique driving setup.

On the other end of the spectrum you have Class B motorhomes, that look a lot like large vans. Finally, often referred to as an in between model in size and level of luxury, you have Class C motorhomes. These feature a front end that looks similar to a truck, with an overhanging living section over the cab. Knowing all this can help you navigate your options more easily. They also offer more variety when it comes to size, which may help you choose a particular class.

Amenities

Another priority to keep in mind is the amenities that come with the motorhomes. This can range from some of the most luxurious setups to just the bare basics to make RV camping comfortable. Think about how many sleeping arrangements you’ll need and what kind of kitchen features will make camping a little easier. You can go beyond the necessities and think about whether you’ll want multiple entertainment centers, a fireplace, and extra storage. Make a list of wants and needs and we’ll try to find the right motorhome for you.

Speaking of which, it’s time to stop by Sun City RV in Peoria, AZ to get your RV or motorhome search started. Let us know how we can help you make the most of your next RV trip and all future RV trips.
